Small instruments with enormous popularity
With its four nylon strings and short neck, the uke originated in Europe and was introduced to Hawaii by way of Portugal. The Hawaiians were so impressed after seeing and hearing the music come from the instrument that they called it “ukulele,” which translates to “jumping flea.”
Ukuleles come in a few sizes, with soprano, concert, and tenor being the most popular with players. Soprano ukes are the smallest at about 21 inches in length and are known for bright and shimmering tones. Younger players and people with small hands love sopranos for the ease of moving around the neck. They’re generally quieter than other sizes of ukuleles. The next size up is the concert uke at around 23 inches in length. It offers a warmer tone and a bit more volume. The largest of the three is the tenor. It provides a bolder sound with more volume, and the size makes them perfect for not-so-tiny players or as a crossover instrument for performers who are most comfortable with the guitar.
The Kremona workshop has crafted stunning instruments by hand since 1924. The in-house luthiers were pleased to bring their years of European building expertise to ukuleles. The instruments feature all-solid tonewoods with beautiful projection. Coco and Mari are musical and warm-sounding professional-grade ukuleles, versatile enough to add a unique voice to any style of music. Each model is built in the three most popular sizes and comes complete and ready to gig with the popular UK-1 pickup and a hard case.
As seen on many concert-level guitars, Coco uses the classic combination of cedar and Indian rosewood to offer a dynamic and robust tone. Each detail has the musician in mind, from the bone nut and saddle to the matte finish and the setup with premium Aquila nylon strings.
Built by hand from the tonewood favored for generations, the all-solid mahogany Mari produces an articulate and modern voice that's mellow and familiar. It features an elegant matte finish and a setup with premium Aquila nylon strings.
